In October 2019 Opus International Consultants Limited changed its name to WSP New Zealand Limited, in keeping with the change the Opus Downer Retirement Scheme has changed its name to the WSP Downer Retirement Scheme . The Scheme was established on 21 October 2016. (and was formerly known as the Works Superannuation Scheme which was established in 1997 following the reorganisation of a prior superannuation arrangement, the Works and Development Service Corporation Superannuation Scheme).
The Scheme is registered under the Financial Markets Conduct Act 2013 as an employer-related restricted workplace savings scheme.
The Scheme provides benefits to members in the event of retirement, death, permanent incapacity, redundancy, resignation or hardship. Further details on member entitlements are given in the Existing Member page.
The Scheme is governed by a sole purpose trustee company acting as Corporate Trustee; WSP Downer Retirement Trustee Limited. There are seven directors, three of whom are appointed by WSP and three of whom are appointed by Downer New Zealand Limited. The seventh director is the chairman who also meets the FMCA requirement to include a Licensed Independent Trustee who is independent of both WSP and Downer.
